10 Natural Ways to Boost Testosterone

No man wants to be deficient in testosterone. Optimal levels improve performance, enhance libido and add muscle mass.

But how can you ensure your testosterone levels are at their peak the natural way? Here are ten little magic gems (you’re welcome!)

D-Aspartic Acid

D-Aspartic Acid is an amino acid regulator of testosterone synthesis and therefore serves to increase the levels of testosterone in the body. It is naturally occurring but men can become deficient in DAA as they get older, or due to inadequate diet. Supplementing your diet with a D-Aspartic acid product helps to counteract this problem and boost the levels of testosterone the body produces.

Vitamin C

We all know about the power of Vitamin C as an antioxidant, but what many of us aren’t aware of is its potential to help boost male testosterone levels. Vitamin C helps to preserve testosterone molecules from oxidate damage.

A study (source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3134113/) also found that Vitamin C as an electron donor, can regenerate damaged testosterone molecules by up to 58%. Other studies (source:https://www.liebertpub.com/doi/abs/10.1089/jmf.2006.9.440) have proven that Vitamin C can significantly increase sperm quality and volume.  Furthermore, the capacity for Vitamin C to reduce cortisol (stress hormone) levels, means that the testosterone:cortisol ratio should improve, creating an anabolic environment within the body.

Zinc

Zinc helps to balance hormones and prevent the decline in testosterone levels that occurs during the ageing process. It has also been shown to raise testosterone levels in deficient males. Adding Zinc supplements to the diet can help to increase levels of luteinizing hormone, a pituitary hormone that stimulates testosterone production.

Maca Extract

Although Maca extract doesn’t alter actual testosterone levels, it has been proven to increase quality of sperm and sperm count. It is an aphrodisiac and boosts libido. Maca extract can help with fertility.

Magnesium

Magnesium deficiency can have a negative impact on testosterone levels. Supplementation has been shown to increase levels of both free and total testosterone in men. It can also assist in protein synthesis.

DHEA

DHEA is naturally produced by the adrenal glands, before being converted by the body into testosterone and other sex hormones. Taking DHEA supplements can help to counter the effects of declining testosterone levels in ageing men, plus increase energy, libido, athletic performance and sperm production.

DHEA can also help towards increased muscle mass and bone density.

Bulbine Natalensis

Bulbine Natalensis is a herb indigenous to South Africa. It has been tried and tested to have positive effects on reducing estrogen, increasing natural testosterone levels and enhancing libido.

Fenugreek

Fenugreek seed extract has traditionally been used to aid digestion and treat common stomach problems, but it became apparent it was also effective at treating erectile dysfunction. It can help to boost libido, improve muscle strength and maintain healthy testosterone levels when taken in doses of 500-600mg per day.

Tribulas

Tribulas was the first herb to be marketed to weight lifters as a testosterone booster. It helps to boost libido and prevent problems with hormone imbalance. Tribulas also acts as an energy booster and serves to fight fatigue.

Cholesterol

Whilst shedding body fat may mean cutting down on cholesterol intake, it is actually vital when it comes to testosterone production. In fact, cholesterol is a precursor of all male sex hormones. It goes without saying then, that following a low fat diet with inadequate cholesterol levels won’t do your libido any favours!
